Constitution of the Sustainable Energy Ventures Club
Preamble
We, the students of New Hampshire Technical Institute, recognizing the need to promote learning and to define the exercise of power that it may be less abused, do hereby establish this Constitution.
Article I - Name
The name of the student club shall be the Sustainable Energy Ventures Club, (SEV Club).
Article II - Purpose
The Sustainable Energies Ventures Club and the students therein, shall work to apply classroom knowledge to promote efficient use of energy in an organized and professional way to compete at the highest university level.
We, the students of NHTI, recognizing the need to promote learning in the area of energy and to define the exercise of power that it may be less abused, do hereby establish this SEV Club, its Constitution and bylaws, and Safety Rules.
The purpose of this Club shall be the encouragement, instruction, proper development, and support of education in the efficient use of energy in our society. The Clubs objectives are as follows:
- To advance the development of the characteristics of honesty, good fellowship, respect for the environment, good sportsmanship, and to provide application of classroom education to the real world.
- To promote the education of our Members and the public concerning uses of energy.
- To promote the efficient use of energy in an organized and professional way in order to compete at the highest university levels.
- To inform and assist members in obtaining information concerning present and future development of all energy sources.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of information among students, faculty and outside sources in an environment for education, both to fellow Members as well as the general public.
- To promote the need for hands on experience in the field of energy sources.
- To promote the good image and reputation of the New Hampshire Technical Institute, its Faculty, the Club, its members, students, sponsors, volunteers and affiliated entities to the public and other learning institutions.
Article III Organization
The SEV Club shall be an organized under the laws of the State of New Hampshire and within the rules established by the New Hampshire Technical Institute. The CLUB shall function as a membership type Club, with the organization and the specifics of operation as described herein the Constitution and Bylaws. An Executive Committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Faculty Advisor(s) will govern the SEV Club, which are elected annually by the Membership at the Annual Meeting of the SEV Club.
The SEV Club shall have no capital stock. No part of the assets of the SEV Club and no part of any net or gross earnings of such shall be divided among or inure to the benefit of any Member (s) or Officer of the Club or any private individual or be appropriated for any purpose other than the purposes of the Club and its operation as herein set forth. Should the Club disband or dissolve, all properties, assets and proceeds shall be donated and legally transferred to the New Hampshire Technical Institute.
Article IV Memberships
Application for membership in the SEV CLUB is open to any part-time or full-time student of the NHTI in good standing, contributing sponsors, peer volunteers, faculty, and associated programs of the NHTI. The SEV Club does not discriminate against any individual applying for membership due to race, creed, religion, sex or physical disability. All applicants for membership must meet Club requirements as set forth in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Club, rules of the NHTI, and any Safety Rules as established by the Club.
Bylaws
The government of the NHTI Sustainable Energy Ventures CLUB, here in after referred to as the SEV Club shall lie with the Executive Committee and the membership. It shall be governed within the Rules of the NHTI, the Constitution and the Bylaws of the SEV Club, and the Safety Rules as established by the SEV Club
ARTICLE I - MEMBERSHIPS
- STUDENT MEMBER:
- All new Members
shall be given a comprehensive Safety Orientation by the President.
- An applicant
, upon acceptance as a Member of the Club, shall be issued a current copy of the Constitution, the Bylaws, the RULES OF NHTI and the Safety Rules and will be required to abide by them in their entirety as a condition of membership.
- A Member in Good Standing and Entitled to Vote
is a Member who meets all of the requirements of Membership contained herein,
- All Members
are responsible for their own actions, as well as the actions of their guests, on the NHTI property and as such, are liable for damage to the property and for any unsafe acts. All members are responsible for obtaining, reading and understanding the contents of the Clubs Constitution, Bylaws, Rules of NHTI, and Safety Rules. Ignorance is not an acceptable excuse for infractions herein.
- JUNIOR MEMBER
: High School Students 14 to 18 years of age may become junior (non-voting) members of this CLUB with sponsorship by a NHTI student member of the SEV CLUB or part of a NHTI sponsored program with the High School.
- VOLUNTEER MEMBER:
Non - student, non voting member who is brought into the club after the club has decided.
- FACLUTY ADVISORS
: Non-voting member who offers advice and direction to the club. The exception is he/she will have an overriding vote dealing with SAFETY ISSUES such as, but not limited to, structural changes, design and modifications, and electrical systems etc.
ARTICLE II - MEETINGS
- MEETING
: Meetings will be held as deemed necessary by the Executive Committee and / or the membership.
- REGULAR MEETINGS
: Will be held weekly during the Tuesday activity period while school is in session unless otherwise specified
- ANNUAL MEETING
: Will be held on the third Tuesday of September during the regular meeting time of the fall semester. Topic to be discussed will be club focuses the year and state of the club.
- SPECIAL MEETINGS
: A Special Meeting may be held at any time upon the call of the President, the Executive Committee or upon demand in writing and signed by not less than 10% of the Members in good standing and entitled to vote. Notice of the time, place and subject and/or purpose of any Special Meeting shall be given all Officers, Advisors, and Members in good standing and entitled to vote in writing and posted on the SEV Club Bulletin Board not less than three (3) days prior to the date fixed for the Special Meeting.
- QUORUM
: ½ of the membership or six members in good standing shall constitute a quorum for any Regular Meeting, Special Meeting or Annual Meeting. Non-attending voting members have three days to submit their absentee ballot to president via e-mail, phone, call, or any means of contact.
- Regular Meeting Notices
: will be posted on the SEV Club bulletin board in Little Hall.
ARTICLE III - OFFICERS
- The Executive Committee
shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and a Faculty Advisor(s). The Executive Committee shall be elected by a majority vote of the members present at the Annual Meeting. The Executive Committee shall hold offices for one year or until their successors are elected. Each member of the Committee shall have one (1) vote. A majority vote of those present at a duly called meeting shall decide all issues before it. The President Chair shall only vote to break a tie or to make a vote unanimous.
- The Executive Committee is responsible for the formation, publication, distribution and implementation of comprehensive safety rules to be approved by advisors and to be followed by all members, students, volunteers, sponsors, faculty and guests.
- ELECTIONS OF CLUB OFFICERS
: Election of Club Officers shall be held at Annual Meeting by a ballot vote. Any Member in good standing shall be entitled to vote. Any member in good standing shall be eligible to run for any office on the ballot. Term of service of an Officer are from the adjournment of the Annual Meeting at which they were elected to the adjournment of the following Annual Meeting at which the newly elected Officers would assume their duties.
- VACANCY
: A vacancy in the Executive Committee may be filled with a nomination by the Executive Committee and the nominee voted on by the Members present at the next Regular Meeting of the Membership. Such Election of Office shall be for the remaining term for the position or positions being filled.
- ELECTED OFFICE
: No person shall hold more than one elected office at any one time.
ARTICLE IV - DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS
PRESIDENT: He/she shall preside at all Meetings of the CLUB, of the Executive Committee and shall be a member ex-officio of all regular and special committees of the Club. The President shall be responsible for conducting the day to day operations of the Club within the Club Constitution, Bylaws, Safety Rules and the New Hampshire Technical Institute and shall perform all such duties as required by his office. He/she shall represent the team to non-team members, i.e. - Communicating with advisors, students, and school on what the team wants or has decided.
- VICE PRESIDENT
: The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President in his absence or at his request. The Vice President shall maintain the Clubs membership records and lists of members in good standing for each membership year and keep all records and lists current. The Vice President shall maintain the Clubs member mailing lists and keep them current and have all current membership lists and information available at all Meetings of the CLUB. The Vice President is also responsible for all fundraising and advertising of the SEV Club. The VP may appoint members of the CLUB to perform these duties under his direction.
- SECRETARY
: The Secretary shall conduct all official correspondence pertaining to the proper preparation and forwarding of all reports required. The Secretary shall notify the members of the Executive Committee of all meetings and notify all members in good standing of regular and special meetings. The Secretary shall keep a true record and minutes of all meetings of the Executive Committee and the Regular Meetings of the Membership and any other organization or special meetings. The Secretary shall have custody of all records, the books and papers of the CLUB, except the books of the Treasurer
- TREASURER:
The Treasurer must be trustworthy. The Treasurer shall have charge of all funds and monies of the CLUB and place the same in such bank or banks as may be approved and/or directed by the Executive Committee and the Membership. Such money shall only be withdrawn by check signed by the Treasurer in accordance with the requirements as listed in the Bylaws as directed by the majority vote of the Executive Committee and the Membership. The Treasurer is responsible for payment of routine bills and other approved expenses promptly and on time. The Treasurer shall keep an accurate record of all transactions and render a detailed report with vouchers at each meeting. A financial report must be given upon charge of any officer and annually in the form of a written and verbal report to the membership at Annual Meeting. The Records of the Treasurer may be audited at any time at the request of the Executive Committee or the Membership. The Treasurer is responsible for any filings of the IRS.
- Shop Manager:
Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe work environment for the club to function within the shop. He/she shell keep accurate logs of who is in the shop and what they are working on. They must have knowledge of where and access to MSDS sheet, and maintain accurate records. First, be notified of any violations pertaining to safety of person(s) and property within the shop. Only student with a key to the shop. In charge of tool maintenance and inventory. Qualified to run machines or deemed safe by an advisor(s).
ARTICLE V CHARGES, SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION
- Any Officer may be removed from office
by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Members in good standing at a Special Meeting called for that purpose. No vote for removal may be taken unless at least fifteen days notice in writing and shall have been given to the Officer stating the reasons for his removal. At such Special Meeting, the Officer shall be given a full hearing.
- Grounds for suspension and/or expulsion of any Member from the Club
shall include, but are not limited to, willful or negligent violations of the Clubs Constitution, Bylaws, Rules of NHTI, and Safety Rules, unsportsmanlike conduct, willful disregard for life or property, violence or criminal conduct.
- Charges against any Member
may be brought forward by any Member in good standing or by the Executive Committee. The charges shall be in writing and signed by the accuser (s) and witness and shell be a general form clearly stating the facts relied upon and accompanied by all written and signed affidavits of witnesses and / or exhibits which are to be used in their support. Such charges shall be filed with the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will meet to hear the charges. The Secretary will give at least a 10 days written notice of the meeting by notifying or posting the notice to each Member of the Executive Committee, the accuser and the accused, which will include a true copy of the charges, stating supporting affidavits and exhibits. Charges shell be e-mailed, posted or hand delivered to the accuser(s), witness, advisor(s), and executive committee within 3-days prior to the hearing.
- Any Member, whose conduct has been decided by the Executive Committee
to have been injurious to the interest or welfare of the Organization, and has been suspended or expelled by the Executive Committee, may appeal that decision to the Members present at the next Regular Meeting of the Membership. Only a 2/3 (two-thirds) vote of the members present will overturn the Executive Committees decision.
- All Members shall be responsible
for obtaining, reading and understanding the contents of the Clubs Constitution, Bylaws, Rules of NHTI, and the Safety Rules. Ignorance is not an acceptable excuse for infractions herein.
- All Members are responsible for their guests
and as such will be held responsible for the actions of their guests. Consequently the Member will have to answer to all charges involving their guests.
ARTICLE VI AMENDMENTS
Any proposed Amendments to the Constitution or the Bylaws may be introduced in writing by any six (6) Members in good standing of this CLUB or by a recommendation of the Executive Committee at any Regular Meeting of the Membership. They must be acted upon by the membership at a Special Meeting (see Special Meeting in Article III) called for that purpose, provided a copy of the proposed amendments has been sent to each member along with the notice of the Special Meeting by e-mail, posting the notice on the SEV Club bulletin board, or any other way of notification one week previous to the Special Meeting. A two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Members present at the Special Meeting will be necessary to approve such amendments.
Amendments to the Safety Rules can be made at any Regular Meeting of the membership by a simple majority vote of a quorum of eligible members present who are members in good standing and must be accompanied by Faculty Advisor(s).

The following safety rules must adhered to at all times.
ARTICLE I Member are responsible for: All members and members guesses will be responsible for following all safety rules set forth by the Constitution and bylaws, OSHA electrical standards booklet, shop manger, and faculty advisors.
